Say goodbye to Windows 7 and 8

Retail sales of Windows 7 and Windows 8 ended on Oct 31st 2014

On October 31st 2014 sales of Windows 7 Home Basic, Home Premium and Ultimate ended through the OEM licencing. It may be possible to purchase a PC with any of these preloaded but Microsoft is no longer issuing any more licences after October 31st.

Microsoft has extended the date that you can buy Windows 7 Professional by another year when it’s pre-installed on a new PC.

Being able to buy box copies of Windows 8 ended on October 31st as well but some PC manufacturers will still provide this version. Typically new PC’s will be supplied with Windows 8.1 as this has got the new performance and security features.

There is a Windows lifecycle fact sheet page that can be found here with more information.
